About Log Homes
I have lived in a log home for over 17 years and I am very familiar with them. I have been asked that if I had to do it over again with my current knowledge, would I still build a log home? My answer is yes, I love everything about my home. Log homes do require some maintenance such as re-applying stain as needed. The problems people have with log homes are easily preventable. The proper stain should be applied when the logs are clean and dry. Water in direct contact with the house is a big problem. Rain gutters should be installed and vegetation pruned so that branches are not in contact with the home. Maintenance coats of stain should be applied as needed. If homeowners would follow these maintenance instructions their homes would retain a rich looking finish indefinitely. This also applies to the restoration of a log home.
